Spongebob and the 90's

It was another two cake weekend. The first was a Spongebob sheet cake for a lovely customer I've worked with in the past. It should have been so simple too...but my edible image printer always throws tantrums at the worst possible moments. Thank goodness I also work at a bakery...I was still able to get the image my customer wanted.

My printer is still having issues...

The second was a challenge. A first time customer wanted a 90's cake to celebrate her favorite Aunt's 20 year anniversary of turning 25. With matching cupcakes.

As it turns out, she wasn't thrilled about turning 45...

So her niece wanted a cake from 1992, when her aunt actually turned 25. So I brainstormed.

And brainstormed.

And brainstormed.

Finally I came up with an idea, went with it, and crossed my fingers that she would like it. She seemed happy when she picked it up...

White Chocolate Snowflakes

It's been a slow week for cakes. Which usually means I either take a break...or experiment. This week, I went with the second option.

I've been wanting to experiment with some new silicone molds I bought, because when I tried using gum paste in them a few weeks ago, the results were awful. But I suspected that chocolate would work...I just needed some free time to test that theory.

I was right

I still don't have my good camera back, but I got a few good, detailed photos. I brushed them with edible lustre dust. So pretty! And tasty...I ♥ white chocolate.

Little Animals

I only do two cakes a weekend. I could do more, and have, but I don't like to. Because after two, the quality of my work goes down, and I'm a little too detail oriented (my hubby would say obsessed) for that to be okay. :-)

But I did three this weekend. An extra, matching sheet cake doesn't really count, not when I have an edible printer and matching frosting already bagged and ready to be piped.

That hand painting on her dress was especially hard for me, because I'm not very practiced in painting. The tiny Pascal, on the other hand, was easy because my daughter's have watched Tangled HUNDREDS of times. Over, and over, and over...

I think he really made the cake.

And the matching sheetcake:

This one turned out beautifully I thought, although much as I would like to, I can't claim the design. Customers often bring me pictures and ask me to duplicate them. That was the case here.

Haunted Houses

My daughters share with me an almost unhealty ♥ of all things Halloween, which is only rivaled by how much their Dad ♥ Halloween. Poor kids...they didn't stand a chance...

So this year we had a Halloween party, and invited some of their friends. In terms of attendance, it was a bust - only three kids showed. But in terms of fun had, it was a rousing success. Especially the cake (although I'm biased).

One of these days, we're going to get one of those light/music setups you see people do around Christmas...but for Halloween. Then we'll have a real haunted house! Not sure what I'm talking about? Here ya go:
